When I try & pass some earth magnets through a looped coil(coil is atached to a battery)…the coil moves but,?
when I move a nail that has a coil of wire wrapped around it & is also attached to a battery, the original looped coil, nothing happens?
Does an electro-magnet(the nail/wire) not have an effect?
what else can I do for this experiment?
What will produce a stronger magnetic field? Electromagnet or Neodymium?

What will produce a stronger magnetic field? Electromagnet or Neodymium?
I need to create a repulsion between two magnets strong enough to carry 65 pounds of weight. would two neodymium magnets work if they are about 1/4in x 1/4in x 1/4in? Or would it be a better idea to use electromagnetics with similar dimensions connected to a 9V battery? Thank you in advance

Where can i find some magnets in the house?
I need them for a dc motor. I know theres fridge magnets and stuff but i need some really powerful ones for this. I cant afford the earth magnets from the shop : (
so please sugge3stions thank you
Electromagnetic propulsion using neodymium magnets?

Electromagnetic propulsion using neodymium magnets?
For a project we need to create an electromagnetic propulsion system for a paper airplane. We cannot create propulsion through coils of wire alone, i.e. electromagnets, but we aim to use magnets, in tandem with a circuit to produce linear motion. We have a seen a very basic demonstration of the principle using two copper strips attached in parallel to a block, a narrow metal cylinder completes the circuit, lying across both strips perpendicularly. When a large horseshoe magnet was placed over the rod, and the current was turned on, the rod was propelled along the track. We aim to use a track of neodymium magnets, all south facing up (strapped together) with a neodymium magnet facing north down, attached to the component that replaces the rod in the previous example. This will take the form of a metal sheet that lie across the conductive strips. The question is, will readily available neodymium magnets provided a strong enough field for what we want to achieve, and secondly can the magnet be mounted directly to the conductive sheet, (the carriage of our machine that will support the plane) or will this interfere with the effect.
I appreciate that this is a very vague question, but any help would be useful,
cheers

I have black fingers from magnets.?
I was experimenting with nickel plated RARE earth magnets, if you know your magnets Rare earth magnets are very strong But as I was fooling around my fingers turned black. I have used these magnets before but…i never experienced that before Thanks and I hope you can help.
